(Photo: Southwark Diocesan Communications)  This was the scene over the weekend when members of the congregation at Southwark Cathedral celebrated the risen Lord by lighting candles. The candlelight symbolises "The Light of Christ" and the cathedral was full for the occasion, which also saw the celebration of baptisms and confirmations.  During the service, four were baptised, 20 were baptised and confirmed, 64 were confirmed, and one person reaffirmed their baptismal vows, while another was received into the Church of England. Mindful of the benefit cuts coming into force this week, Bishop Christopher Chessun reminded people of the need to be merciful as he commended church for services like food banks, which are providing support to people experiencing financial hardship.  FG_AUTHORS: Christianity Today
